The Deal

This is a must go if you’re starving, downtown, and only have less than than $15 to your name.

Although the Fremont Casino claims to have the largest buffet in the area, I think this one is larger. It’s by far the best downtown. They even have an italian looking guy manning the pizza oven. There is also a small section offing half a dozen Hawaiian specialities, which is quite unique and exotic if you haven’t tried them.

The Chinese food, however, didn’t taste too good. The only taste I got out of the chow mien was soy sauce. And the fried rice again was over powered by a strong taste of soy sauce as well. Egg rolls however were decent best I’ve found for a mid-tier casino buffet. You’ll have to go off strip to Krazy Buffet if you want anything really good.

There is always a bit of a line up to get the stake and seafood during the busy hours. Make sure you get the players card to get the prices listed below, it only take a few mins. Also listen to our Podcast EP01 or read the show notes to find out how you can get 2-for-1, essentially saving 50%.

Like most casino buffets, bathrooms are located outside on the casino floor if you needed to evacuate your bowels to clear more room. As an interesting side note, a large section of the original Berlin Wall was installed in one of the bathrooms here. Urinals were placed on it, and now men and have a chance to piss on what was once a barrier to freedom for millions during the Cold War. In the female restroom however, the concrete toilets were met with a cold reception and were removed weeks after their installation.

I went during steak night where they advertised cook to order steaks. What they mean is that they have stakes pre grilled to your taste. I got a medium rare one, but once I started cutting into it, I discovered that it was thin and well done. I guess it continued cooking under the lamps.

Although all the other desserts were just cuts slices of prepared cakes from a restaurant supplier, I wanted to try out the bread pudding that was made in house. For me, the best part of any bread pudding is the sauce, and this one was disappointing. It tasted like strange was was hard to describe.

One thing Main Street, and other Boyd Casinos Buffets do well is fried chicken. Soo good!

Service was good, but not great. I had to wait a bit for a refill and other time it took a while to have a plate cleared. I did go during a busy time, so that was expected. For one of the premium dinner nights where you have to pay extra, I was expecting more.
